Background and problem

Medfin is a data analytics platform dedicated to dental industry.

Dental data is scattered across multiple systems (practice management software, NHS records, accounting tools), so dentists/practice teams can’t easily make sense of the numbers or turn them into actionable insights.

They need a way to unify the data in one place to quickly understand performance, monitor costs, and improve booking efficiency.

Research and solution

To understand the problem, I interviewed dentists to learn how they work day to day, uncover where they struggle to interpret data, and identify the key questions they need the platform to answer.

Every dashboard has a clear story to tell.

  1. Dashboard with key metrics

Rather than dumping raw data on users and forcing them to scroll endlessly, we curated a smaller set of key metrics for the dashboard, so the insight is immediately clear.

Z-shaped reading pattern for better information digest efficiency.

  1. High-level insights to detailed drill-down

To avoid overwhelming users, we designed each dashboard with a “high-level insights to drill-down” structure, so they can start with a simple overview and explore progressively deeper details as they scroll.

The dashboard is separated into different sections, from hight level insight to drilling down details.

  1. Data isn’t just numbers: it reflects the stories, responsibilities, and goals behind them.

We turn data into actionable insights, and when an issue is identified, we prompt users with clear next steps so they can address it immediately.
